How Does My Credit Report Affect Potential Employment?

Good Credit Makes for Better Job Prospects

Employers want reliable, responsible employees.

Companies, including potential employers, life and automobile insurance companies, and landlords may use your credit history to determine whether or not you are a good risk. If you’re a poor credit risk, you may also be seen as a poor employment risk.

As a result, potential employers may shy away from hiring you, opting instead for someone who managed their credit more responsibly. A good credit report might help you get that job offer.

Employers are also one of the sources of information that feeds into your credit report. Others are lenders, insurance companies, landlords, public utilities, county clerk’s offices, the courts, and cellular phone companies. Any of these sources might have provided information that sheds light on the five components of your credit score.
